You see, this organization was formed in 1999 as a simple suggestion my cousin, Omar Curry, (DTDT VP) and I came up with. We just wanted to see a live professional football game at a nearby venue with a few family members and friends. I was living in the Los Angeles area and my cousin (Omar) in the San Diego area. In 1999 Los Angeles did not have an NFL franchise playing in the city, therefore the most logical place to go see a game was, at that time, Qualcomm Stadium to attend a San Diego Chargers home game. Omar suggested gathering together a few friends, purchasing some tickets, and meet in the San Diego area for a weekend of fun and sports. This proved to be a great suggestion. Omar and I then planned a weekend starting with a small get together on that Saturday before the Sunday afternoon game, complete with a bar-b-que (Saturday) and an evening of partying and bar hopping later that night in San Diego’s famous Gas Lamp District. Early that next Sunday morning, we were off to Qualcomm for some pregame tailgating and then a great San Diego Charger game. Thus began, something we named, “Do The Damn Thing Weekend”.
We started that year with nine guys, from both the LA and San Diego areas. Today there are hundreds of members nation wide who have participated in many DTDT sponsored events all over the USA. Many great friendships and fellowships have formed since then, bringing together people from all walks of life to enjoy one another in specific, sports filled environments. We are now in the process of revamping the DTDT Organization (DTDT 2.0). A short list of cities we have visited and enjoyed: New Orleans, LA (New Orleans Saints); Miami Beach, FL (Miami Dolphins); Atlanta, GA (Atlanta Falcons); Dallas, TX (Dallas Cowboys); New York City, NY (New York Jets); Washington, D.C. (Washington Commanders) (formerly know as “The Washington Redskins”); Chicago, IL (Chicago Bears), Phoenix, AZ (Arizona Cardinals); San Diego, CA (MLB San Diego Padres). Prior to the Rams return to Los Angeles (2020), we’ve had recent visits to The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (2017 and 2019) for Los Angeles Rams Games and even more recently to SoFi Stadium (2023!). We have even hosted a few Superbowl Parties at a mansion in Las Vegas which were huge successes.
We plan to expand to not only professional football venues but also NBA basketball, MLB Baseball, professional and amateur boxing events, and the list goes on. We may participate and/or visit any sporting event in any city in the US, and abroad at anytime during the year.
